Timothy is reminded that he is living in the last days. The last days were perilous times, and Timothy was encouraged to endure afflictions. The Lord’s kingdom would fully arrive with the Lord’s appearing.

The Thessalonian letters contain references to the man of sin, the son of perdition, and that Wicked who the Lord would destroy with the brightness of his coming. This was the eschatological evil that was present during the last days, and the end of the age.

God requires the circumcision of the heart, which is done through Christ. (2:11).

Paul warns of legalistic Judaizers and calls them dogs and evil workers. Paul also reminds them that the Lord was at hand.

The church was always the plan of God from the foundation of the world and is the fulfillment of God’s promises to Abraham and Israel.

The New Covenant is a covenant of grace, and the Law was a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. The Old Covenant was temporary until the establishment of the New Covenant, which is better and eternal.

Paul writes the letter to the Corinthians to bring order to the misuse of spiritual gifts, and to deal with immorality in the church. Corinth was a very pagan city with strong sexual immorality. Corinthians shows the need for order in the church (14:40).  

Paul declares the entire world is guilty before God. The Jews were guilty because of the law. Justification is only by faith, and not the works of the law. Paul also explains that all physical Israel is not the true Israel.

The Book of Acts serves as a transition from the Old Covenant of law to the New Covenant of grace and faith.

John’s gospel is evangelist, to those who would read and believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God.

Luke records the sending of the twelve, and the sending of the seventy, which are representative of the formation of a new Israel. Luke also speaks of the days of vengeance that were coming to Israel, for the shedding the blood of the prophets who were the covenant messengers of God.

Mark’s gospel uses the term “straightway”. Straightway means “immediately. Without loss of time; without delay. Mark’s gospel is a gospel of action and shows the urgency of Christ’s ministry to Israel.

Matthew records the rejection and suffering of the Messiah, culminating in his death, resurrection, and the giving of the Great Commission. Matthew reveals the hypocrisy of the religious leaders and their opposition to the ministry of Christ.

Jesus preached and demonstrated the Kingdom through signs and wonders. It is our job to follow the pattern of Jesus by preaching and demonstrating the power of the kingdom.
